The Tiered Pricing feature in Subotiz allows merchants to set flexible rates that scale with customer usage. It supports usage-based billing for products such as cloud storage, APIs, or online tools, enabling automated invoicing and transparent rate adjustment as usage grows.
Accessing the pricing setup
- Create a pricing plan: Go to Products > Product pricing > Create pricing to add a new plan.
-
Select product: Choose the product that this pricing plan applies to.
- Example: Cloud Storage App
- Set subscription type: Under Subscription type, select Recurring > Based on usage, then choose Tiered pricing.
- Confirm currency: Prices must be defined in the primary currency of your workspace.
-
Name your plan: Enter a clear, customer-facing name that appears on checkout and invoices.
- Example: Cloud Storage – Tiered Pricing.
- Add trial period (optional): Enable Set a trial period and enter the number of trial days to offer free access before the first billing cycle. The system will automatically generate the first charge after the trial ends.
-
Set billing cycle: Choose how often to bill customers (weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly). Subotiz automatically calculates usage and issues an invoice at the end of each cycle.
- Define tier rules: When you select Tiered pricing, you can create up to 10 tiers to define price ranges and rate adjustments.
-
Each tier includes:
- A usage range (minimum and maximum units)
- A unit price applied within that range
-
Choose a calculation method that matches your pricing model:
- Volume tiers: Apply one rate to all usage within the billing cycle.
- Graduated tiers: Apply different rates across usage ranges.
Refer to the examples in Product pricing|Understanding Tiered Pricing Models (Volume vs Graduated) to confirm how Volume and Graduated calculations apply.
-
-
Enter description: Use this field to describe what the plan includes and how the tier logic applies.
- Example: Pay only for the storage you use. Pricing decreases automatically as your total monthly storage grows.
- Enable features: Toggle the features you want to include in this pricing plan. Enabled features appear on the checkout page and customer invoices.
- Save the plan: Review all details before saving. Saved plans appear as Draft and can be activated later from the dashboard. Draft plans cannot be edited after publishing.
Activating the pricing
After saving, the plan must be activated before it can be used in checkout or invoices.
- Open the Product pricing dashboard: After saving, you’ll be redirected to the dashboard. Locate the pricing entry marked as Draft, then click to open its details.
- Activate the pricing: Review all fields again. Click Activate at the top right to publish the plan. Once activated, the plan becomes live and available in checkout and invoice links.
The Tiered Pricing model lets merchants design flexible, usage-based plans with rates that adjust according to customer behavior. Choose Volume tiers when one consistent rate applies per cycle, or Graduated tiers to apply progressive rates across usage levels. Both models maintain a recurring subscription structure that ensures transparent and automated billing.
