Payment method management in Subotiz allows merchants to view and configure available payment methods in the admin, including changing their display order, assigning payment providers, and enabling or disabling payment methods. Configuring payment methods effectively helps merchants optimize the checkout experience and support customer payment preferences across different markets.
Viewing and Managing Payment Methods
- Open the Payment methods page: Log in to the Subotiz admin and go to Payment > Payment methods. The page lists available payment methods, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, Card, and PayPal.
- Reorder payment methods: Click and hold the drag handle (⋮⋮) to the left of a payment method, then drag it up or down to change its display order. Newly added payment methods appear at the bottom of the list by default.
-
Understand how payment methods appear at checkout: The order configured in the admin determines the display order at checkout:
- Express checkout buttons: Apple Pay, Google Pay, and PayPal appear as express checkout buttons at the top of the checkout page when supported. Their display order follows the order configured in the admin, from left to right. If the assigned payment provider does not support express checkout (for example, Airwallex), or if the order amount due is zero, these payment methods appear in the payment method list instead.
- Payment method list: Other payment methods appear from top to bottom based on their order in the admin.
- Default selection: The first payment method in the list is selected by default, excluding express checkout buttons displayed at the top of the page. If Card is the first method in the list, the card entry form expands automatically.
Example: The payment methods are arranged in the following order in the admin: Apple Pay → Card → Google Pay.
- Standard checkout: Apple Pay and Google Pay appear as express checkout buttons at the top, with Apple Pay on the left and Google Pay on the right. Card is the first item in the payment method list, so the card entry form expands automatically.
-
When express checkout is unavailable or the amount due is zero: The payment method list displays Apple Pay → Card → Google Pay from top to bottom. Apple Pay is selected by default, and the card entry form remains collapsed.
- Assign a payment provider: In the Payment providers column, select an active payment provider from the dropdown menu for each payment method. Only active providers that support the selected payment method appear in the dropdown. Card supports multiple payment providers simultaneously, and Subotiz automatically selects the optimal provider for each transaction. For instructions on connecting payment providers, see Payment providers|Connecting a New Payment Provider.
- Enable or disable payment methods: Use the toggle to the right of each payment method to enable or disable it. Disabled payment methods are no longer displayed to customers at checkout.
- Save the configuration: After making changes, click Save in the top-right corner to apply the updated payment method settings.
Note: The configuration cannot be saved if only Apple Pay, Google Pay, Buy Now, Pay Later, or local payment methods are enabled without any other payment method.
Managing Payment Method Domains
When using Apple Pay with the Embedded Form, merchants must register and verify the domain hosting the checkout page to make Apple Pay available on supported devices and browsers.
- Open the domain management page: Go to Payment > Payment methods and click Payment method domains in the top-right corner.
- View domain registration records: Review each domain's registration details, including Domain, Payment provider, Registration result, and Last updated time.
- Manage domain registration: Click Add domain and follow the on-screen instructions to register a new domain. If registration fails, review the failure reason, resolve the issue, and click Reregister to try again.
When using the Hosted Page, Subotiz automatically completes the domain verification required for Apple Pay. No manual domain setup is needed.
For instructions on deploying the verification file, registering domains, and troubleshooting registration issues, see Payment|Managing Payment Method Domains.
Best Practices
- Prioritize commonly used payment methods: Place payment methods preferred by customers in target markets at the top of the list.
- Select compatible payment providers: Confirm that the assigned payment provider supports the payment method, target markets, and business requirements.
- Simplify checkout: Enable only payment methods relevant to the business and its customers to avoid displaying unnecessary options.
- Check the impact on subscriptions: Before disabling a payment method or changing its payment provider, check for active subscriptions that use it to avoid disrupting future recurring payments.
Managing payment methods, payment providers, and their display order in one place helps merchants maintain a streamlined checkout experience, support customer payment preferences across markets, and manage payment configurations more efficiently.
